If you are unsure about what to do with all the scrap metal you’ve collected over the years, there are two options you can go for. The first one is to simply take the materials to the scrap yard on your own. But if that’s not possible, don’t worry – you can arrange a collection from your location with a local scrap metal removal company. Even though the prices offered for certain types of metals will vary from time to time, it’s a good and easy way to get some additional cash. Scrap metal recycling is good not only for your finances but also for the environment because it allows limiting the need for mining. Extracting metals from their ores has very negative effects as it can lead not only to the destruction of natural habitats but to the release of toxins into the air and water as well. Currently, metals are one of the most recycled materials, but these numbers can get even higher.
I wonder how much metal is actually collected in the UK? Remember some programs being shown by the BBC. Do you have any number you can share?
If yes please do so I’d love to learn more about it. Also How much money on the average your customer makes and what sort of metal do they mainly call with?
Cheers
Hi Rafael, thank you for the interesting questions! The number is incredible because there are more than 10 million tonnes of metal recycled each year. The scrap metal industry has a very significant impact on the British economy. Also, recycling not only is economical both for the citizen and for the country but also feels good to improve the environment.
The price depends on the metal type. For example, zinc is worth 60p per kg while aluminum is worth 70p. For bright copper, you can get £4.10 per kg and for heavy copper, £3.60 per kg. Mixed Brass is worth £2.45 per kg. In the UK most frequently types of metal scrapped are aluminum, copper, stainless steel, iron, and steel.
